– Prayer of the Long Life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama
His Holiness the Dalai Lama is turning 90! We invite you all to join us for this heartfelt celebration. As the spiritual leader of Tibet, His Holiness has devoted his life to bringing happiness to all living beings everywhere. We look forward to coming together to honor His Holiness the Dalai Lama and pray for his well-being, long life, and the fruition of all of his wishes.
We will base our celebrations on the advice of Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, who gifted us with wonderful instructions on How to Do the Great Festival of His Holiness’ Birthday in the Best Possible Way.
Schedule:
2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Prayers and Practices for the long life of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
3:30 pm – 4:00 pm Tea and Cake
Offering Service on Compassion Day
FPMT centers around the world will be celebrating His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday as “Compassion Day,” a special occasion dedicated to honoring His Holiness through acts of prayer and service. This year, we are organizing a Food and Supply Drive in support of Food Not Bombs. Food Not Bombs supplies free meals to 300 members of the Santa Cruz community each week. The organization also supplies houseless community members with necessary supplies, such as tents, blankets, hygiene materials, etc. Join us in honoring His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday through compassion in action.
We will be collecting donations from June 29th – July 6th. Please bring donations to the Land of Medicine Buddha bookstore during open hours (Monday-Thursday 10-4, Friday-Sunday 10-5).
Items Needed:
-Sleeping bags
-Tents
-Blankets
-Non-perishable bulk food. (Big bags of rice, beans, etc.)
We would also like to use this precious day to organize ongoing community service efforts as a community. If you would like to volunteer for Food Not Bombs, with other members of the LMB community, please fill out this form. We will follow up to organize ongoing volunteer days.
Land of Medicine Buddha has also offered a Buddha Statue to His Holiness for his birthday. Community members can sponsor a Buddha statue or a Long Life Puja, which will be offered to His Holiness on his birthday by FPMT.
